That is an interesting assessment that I wouldn't have thought of. I try to keep my motor mounts fresh, so I don't know what the clatter would be related to that.
But, if it isn't motor mounts, you should check the play in the turbo inducer by taking off the plumbing up to the intake side as it's easy to get to in comparison to the exducer side. Once the tubes are off, pull the stem in and out, and up and down. In a new one, there is a little play, but if there is significant play, you might see where the blades striking the body of the turbo.
I have an excess number of turbos now as I sent about 5 off during the winter when the builder was slow, and I haven't been using them up as fast as I thought I would. They are all TE05s, some with the new whizbang super 16g billet wheel, and some bone stock. Normally, I don't sell this stuff as it's too hard to get them done in a hurry.
But, I don't think it's your turbo. I think it is your distributor servo not retarding the timing under boost, and the clatter is detonation.
Get a mityvac or a pressure source of air to produce say 10 -15 psi, apply it to the retard capsule when running and watch to see if the timing drops out 10 degress. If it isn't retarding the timing under boost, your servo has gone bad. That would be better news than a turbo or a motor mount......
