Hello,
It could be "morning sickness" it does happen. First I would check if the universal on the steering shaft right before attaches to the rack is rusty. Shoot it down with something like pb blaster and work it back and forth and hit it a few more times. The universal joint is exposed to the elements and can get a little stiff and bind causing a condition like you are experiencing. With morning sickness try changing the fluid out and the filter if your car has one. I think it was 1992 before they came with them from the factory. Sometimes it helps.
