Re: wrong fuel filter Posted by Landjet [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: wrong fuel filter, Justin VanAbrahams ![]() |
I'll agree with Justin. However, I would guess that over the years there has been some of the evil booze fuel put into the gasoline tank, and the fuel pump workings/rubber has turned to goo. If that is the case, you have a substantial job on your hands. I would suspect that the wrong fuel pump is in the tank as well, as it seems that people will interchange fuel pumps into CIS systems thinking a fuel pump is a fuel pump.
Then you have the fuel pump accumulator which is no longer available so you'll have to plumb in a Volvo one. And then there is the fuel distributor and warm up regulator that are probably all out of wack, not to mention the modulator valve which could be sticking or none functional.
Oh, and then there is the ignition....and a couple miles of vaccum line that is probably all hard and cracked.
Now that I've painted such a lovely picture, make sure you change the air filter after all that other stuff is done as well.
The point of what I'm saying is that there are going to be multiple things that are not "well" with the car, and further complicated by the frankensteinian hybridisms that you have with the car.
Ask me how I know? I have a 1981 with a 1984 ignition system, a 1976 air mass meter, a 1988 fuel distributor, a 1986 warm up regulator.....and a STOCK ( bone STOCK ) fuel filter. Fits the bracket too.
Runs great though. Best one mile standing start speed is 140.625mph.....blew the doors off the competition, and now it needs the doors fixed. Bottoms fell out. It never ends. :-)
