Stoked with my SPG - (long) Posted by Chuey [Email] (#1706) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Chuey) on Mon, 2 Nov 2015 20:37:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
A few months ago I bought a 1989 SPG in Edwardian Gray. I've had it inspected, the shifter lubed (didn't really make it much better) and the coolant lines, which were leaking, replaced.
Today I devoted some time to "Edward". I cleaned the engine compartment, which wasn't actually very dirty. I treated the seats with Glypsol, which I found out about on this site, and I gave it a good bath and vacuum. This car has 218,000 miles on it but the interior and engine compartment seem like they have twenty thousand. Actually, the seats have no worn through parts but show signs of the miles. Treating them helped.
The car has mismatched tires and they're pretty worn so I'll probably replace them soon. Suggestions for tires on stock SPG wheels would be appreciated.
Things I need to check out: seat heaters, fog lights, air conditioning. Everything else works, even the clock! I would still like to improve the smoothness of the shifter. I've had two other 900s so I know it should feel better. Also, considering replacing the radiator on general principal, but it doesn't look old and the car runs nice and cool. (I didn't get any repair records with the car.)
I can't wait to take this car up to the mountains for a nice drive with the sunroof open! Tire suggestions welcome.
Cheers, Chuey
