To properly review the shifting of the gears, you have to have the spring depressed and therefore, the ball forcing into the detent on the shift shafts.
Cymles showed this to me while I was at his shop to review the proper diagnosis of the shift mechanical process.
The video is helpful -- I'd just suggest to put a plate with a hole in it over the spring, so it would depress the mechanism and force the ball into the detent when reviewing the mechanical operation of the shift mechanism.
After you finish up the with shift fork mod, you need to look at the full engagement in reverse, spinning the mechanism and make sure the sliding reverse gear doesn't contact the back wall of the gearbox, or it will make a grinding noise worse than nails on a chalkboard. We heat up ours and make a 11 degree dogleg in the proper direction to push the gear rearward slightly -- that's an alternate approach to cutting off the washer and reversing the assembly sequence.
And, if the stack gear is trashed, don't count on it working very well. Usually, the stack gear is messed up too, so it's a crap shoot if it works, but all worth the effort if it does.
Good job by the way on the video (s)
