the power seat install wasn't too bad.... Posted by DET17 [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Nice installation., RS ![]() ![]() |
Found the BMW seat wiring online. Sourced 12V and ground from the original power seats....sistered it over to the pass. side as well (manual seat I think, just heated from SAAB). The M3 has memory seat values stored in the ECU.... no practical way to do that, so I settled for "move it to where you want it" whenever she's running. One of the cool features of the M3 convertible seats is a HIGH SPEED forward/backward button for when you want to load passengers.
The frames which I built were indeed 1/4 CR steel bar. Made a nice ACAD drawing of the hole patterns from BMW and SAAB, built them, then apparently I deleted the drawing! Really not too bad, just measure twice and cut once. Actually had a guy ask me for the adapter drawing last year, and then realized I didn't have it!
We are currently using the BMW seat belt locks on the inside of the seats, and the built into the backrest BMW belts. However, as was pointed out by Zig, the convertible counts on the high attachment point of the belt to resist the load of a head on collision, and it is possible the seat could deform from the adapters. I didn't run any calculations on it.... pretty stout, but a couple G's in a collision could move things. My long term plan is to cut off the BMW belts, move the flat blade over to the SAAB belt, and restore the original safety feature.
