It's possible the main pump is just touchy from sitting for a while. I've had issues like that on infrequently driven Saabs. A bunch of key cycles or a whack with something usually brings them back to life. The pump on my 5-door did that for literally years. :lol:
When replacing the pump, don't overlook the plastic return line. It goes from a fitting on the tank to a fitting on the bucket. IME, the rubber hose involved in that is typically in poor shape, and often the plastic line ends up detaching and just laying in the tank where it can be overlooked. I would pick up some tank-rated 5/16" fuel line and just replace it. A foot will do the job, that's $10-$15 at most parts stores.
