Dan writes below about the experience setting the record in Class G/Blown Fuel Altered. Below Dan's comments is an excerpt from Hemmings on the event which mentions Dan. There is also a link to the full article.

"Yes, and the record was 140.857 mph. I ran a qualification run at 147+ but we left that day, so it didn't get backed up with an average which is done the next day, so I left that one on the table so to speak......
Until one goes to one of these events and participates you have no idea the level of difficulty it is to get through inspection, do the down run, and then back it up for a record ... THEN, you have to get to impound AGAIN to get the record certified. Now, that sounds easy enough, but you have to do this while being flat towed under no power 18 miles, yes, we clocked it, and do it within 60 minutes with a stop at the timing tower to get the slip, then go BACK to the start line to get it signed ( backtracking ) and then over to impound which is about 10 miles by that time. If ONE thing goes wrong along the way ( like stopping to take a pee ) you can lose out -- we had 7 minutes left of the 60 and we hustled to the point I was cracking a whip.
Yeah, this is a nutty thing to get wound up in, but I can't help it.....I have no idea what drives me to do this stuff. If it wasn't meant to happen, then there is not a way that it could I guess...
My team consisted of RogerD, and Blacksheep, both on the Saabnet.com 900 board, Bryan Harris (who took the car on two runs as a driver on the salt). And my wife and crew chief that used to work for Dan Gurney."

"Affectionately known at home as Daddy’s Panda, this Saab 93 sport was resurrected by Lawrence, Kansas, motorhead Dan Haugh who happily recorded a new land speed record of 140.857 MPH in Class G/Blown Fuel Altered.
Dan Haugh from Lawrence, Kansas, had as much fun setting his 140 MPH record driving a resurrected 1981 Saab Turbo, aka, The Panda as did Poteet. When he arrived home, he saw that his wife, Jay, had adorned the front porch colonnade with a bright metallic “Congratulations” banner, and inside waiting was a three foot high helium-filled silver trophy flanked with further profferings of praise and adulation."
