My car had the same problem after parking for some months. I exchanged the master for a good one, and rebuilt the master later on. It seemed fine inside and is currently in service on another car. I think the seals just got gooey from age, and adhered to the side due to disuse. This was an '86 and I believe the master was original to the car. I replaced everything because all the rubber bits were degrading and starting to weep: master, slave, and even the clutch flexible line.
