There are a number of ways that water can get in on the passenger side. One way that's not discussed much (but happened to my '89 SPG) is that there is a metal plug on the passenger side that fills the porthole that the steering U-joint goes through on RHD cars. Sometimes the rubber grommet that secures and seals the plug gets soaked with power steering fluid and/or oil and doesn't seal anymore.
Here's where it is, as viewed from the engine compartment, without the engine.
When I discovered the leak, I cleaned up the gasket from the engine side with an industrial and sealed it with lots of silicone. And then, repaired the rust in the floor with POR 15
In any event, you'll want to pull up the carpeting on that side, dry out any residual water, and repair any rust that has started before it becomes a problem.
