PD,
There are no major failure points for a C900 that has been well cared for and has no rust. That's why we like them.
Unless that 1987 transmission was abused then it will be fine for quite some time. Typically the first thing to cause issues in these transmissions is the pinion bearings which will begin to whine at some point due to wear. At 120K that unit's bearings should have significant life remaining. The fat balk rings appeared in 1991 and from what I've seen are no more durable in actual service (maybe on paper?) and would you spend $3000 on a transmission swap to get 1991> fat balk rings and a 1991> floating shift fork shaft that's going to escape and cause shifting problems (unless it's been secured)?
At that mileage the timing chain is fine. It will rattle when it stretches beyond the wear limit and that won't be for a long time.
