Short term fix 2 Saabers Like This Post! Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Wed, 5 Jan 2022 09:35:23 In Reply to: Rag Top, JeffR [Profile/Gallery] , Tue, 4 Jan 2022 16:27:19 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've had this issue. You can do a really quick fix for it very easily (until you get your replacement sorted out). Open the top about a couple of inches, just to let off the tension. Unzip the top zipper from the rest of the roof. Clean the fabric part by brushing with a wire brush and clean the glass part down to the bare glass using a razor blade.
I used black 3M weatherstripping cement to fix mine. Its a contact adhesive. To get a good bond, apply the glue in two steps: apply a generous amount as a first coat to get good adherence to the glass and fabric and let that set up until tacky. Then, instead of joining the two sides, apply a second very thin coat just to freshen up the glue's surface, give it a couple of minutes to get tacky again then join the two sides. Put some weights on it to hold the two sides together and let the glue set up for at least an hour (overnight is even better).
I followed this procedure and the repair held for 5 years. I wrecked the car before the repair failed. It's easy, only costs bout $5-10 for the glue, and takes only about a half hour.
