Im running a 2 door hatch with a 3.5 year old. I never had him in this car until he was forward facing so i dont have any experience with it in rear facing configuration.
However I do have recent experience with all of it and in all sorts of cars. The convertible set up will take up more room in its rear facing configuration than any other car seat set up. Im about 85% sure you will have to push front seat forward to alleviate that.
However, I have 2 big points of concern--or to consider:
1: I am not sure I would love the idea of having to strap a baby into a rear facing seat in the hatch 2-door.
SO I would strongly suggest using the car seat carrier style that just snaps into a base.
but others may have experience knowledge on this better than my trying to imagine strapping in a kid rear facing in a 2-door.
2: you will need to figure out a rear tether tie down in the trunk. You cant just screw a d-ring into the wood trunk floor as that would rip out in an accident.
I had to cut a hole in the wood floor panel to access the point I found on the metal body where I attached a d-ring (there was a convenient hole that I was able to get a bolt in and tack it with some buggered welds)
I do not think you can safely run any modern car seat without the rear tether?? Though I recall the rear seat carrier base can be installed without rear tether (so another point for that system)
Obviously you dont have a LATCH system but you can use the seat belt (thouhg on a 92 I do not know if you will need to get a seat belt locking clip (theyre like 5 bucks on amazon) or if the seat belt retractor locks appropriately for modern car seat instal?
Lastly, I will say once they are forward facing the c900 actually has tons of room and is my sons favorite car to ride in for the vastly improved visibility.
Congrats! just know that buckling kids in cars seats is often the worst part of ones day.... so make it as easy for you and the kid as possible...
its worth every extra expense on that point.
and be safe.
