Seal your bolts Posted by Cmyles [Email] (#1126) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Cmyles) on Fri, 10 Jun 2022 08:35:18 In Reply to: Start with the easy, Tushy, Thu, 9 Jun 2022 20:15:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Tushy,
Those bolts that secure the inner driver assemblies are bored all the way through into the case and must be coated with thread sealant or they will leak oil. If they were loose and you tightened them that means that they probably were not sealed to begin with and certainly aren't now. People will often change out inner drivers or replace a seal and then just return the bolts without any fresh thread sealant. I prefer to use permatex/loctite #2 non-hardening sealant for those. If they are tightened they don't need actual thread locker.
It is possible to replace the shift shaft seal with the unit in the car but it's no fun at all and you need a special driver (can be home made) to seat the new seal. Much easier with the unit on a bench.
