Something doesn't look quite right with that pulley/bearing combo. This is a pic of my new Dayco replacement, and the bearing on the other side doesn't stick out that far if I remember right. Pressed in from the other side and bottoms out on the lip on this side. Yours may not be pressed in "all the way" maybe, or like you said, it has no lip to bottom it out. Weird design for sure!
