When I first attempted the conversion, I just got the calipers and some vented discs. Took off the caliper just to see if they'd fit. When I attempted to install the vented disc it contacted the lower ball joint bulge in the dust shield. There was no way it was going to work. This was the same with OEM discs and with Raybestos aftermarket ones. Now maybe I could have bashed the bulge out of the way, or cut the dust shield, but I didn't. I measured the hubs and found them to have a different dish, by a few mm. I don't remember how much. I think I may have photos of the difference on my old computer, but I'm not sure.

I bet it went like this: the "vented" hub with more dish is backward-compatible with solid discs. If a car had solid discs from factory, it could still theoretically be fitted with the "vented" hubs, if Saab went to "vented" hubs as a running change regardless of the discs and calipers fitted. That would explain the continued confusion, and why some people say you need to change the hubs and some don't.

The EPC (electronic parts catalog) saying there is only one hub could also be an artifact of the vented hub being backward compatible with solid discs. I.E. maybe they introduced vented hubs as a running change on all cars at some point and ditched the old hub (from factory and from the EPC) once they ran out of them.

In any case, it is an easy test for the OP to do. Just take off your caliper, install the disc, and see if it contacts anything. The fly in the ointment is that they may be hard to source these days. I see a couple suppliers saying they have them, but they may not really be available.
