That's pretty common. As the cars get more wear, the reverse gears tend to chip slightly and the "noses" of the gears get flat so they don't slide past each other and engage easily.When I'm stopped, I have to put the shifter in a few gears before reverse will engage. It was the same with my previous 2 SAABs, too.
