Does no Cat effect vacuum? Searching for clues

86 900s 170k 5spd - I have been looking for THE vacuum leak, and am wondering if having no material in my cat converter effects engine vacuum. (It partially melted so I removed its contents during an exhaust repair) The symptoms I have lead me to believe it's a vacuum problem: cold start/rough idle, temp control goes hot (while on low heat) except when off throttle for longer periods like freeway off ramp. Break pedal pressure will change with rpm while warming car in driveway. I have checked and replaced any suspect vacuum hoses, cleaned throttle body and air bypass valve, tested for vacuum leaks on each auxiliary actuator I can find but no luck. Only major failure so far was loosing all the v belts during a rainstorm (deeeeep h2o) last year. I will up my "green" status and replace the cat when my pocket gets a bit greener. Your responses are appreciated
