In my country, a generel knowledge is, that winter tires ("M+S") have better grip/friction properties, when not too wide. It is known, that 175 is far superior to 195 (milimeter width) when it is slick out there....
Perhaps these "facts" also applies to autumn driving.....
Anyhow, I would never consider anything wider than the SAAB recommended 185/65R15, the cost in lowered mpg and lost grip is just too risky and high for the gain of a little good looks...
