got my trans fixed, sort of.....

I lost my trans last week, and just got my car back today. He put in a used box, mine was entirely too destroyed to be worth fixing. Everything seems great, until 4500 rpm or so. Then comes an ugly grinding noise. Not really like missed-a-shift grinding, it's much faster, perhaps in the differential. It does it at really high rpm, but not really before. Sometimes it continues to do it after I back of, when there is a reverse load from engine braking. Should I not drive the car until I get it back to him? They road tested it of couse, but I'm not sure they would rev it that high. My car currently has no exhaust behind the rear axle, and it had occurred to me that I was perhaps hearing the exhaust rattle, but I can't imagine that it would make this kind of sound. Any opinions are appreciated.
Any ideas what worse case would be here? He told me if anything goes wrong with it for thirty days, it would be taken care of. This is a specialty Saab repair shop. The guy that put in the trans actually did the pre-delivery inspection on this car ('85 SPG).
