You may only need to adjust your shift linkage. Replacing the front mount will certainly help if it is bad.
My son took the 89 900S to school. Hit a curb. The only visible damage was the front mount was bent. As a result the fifth gear and reverse were lost. Replaced the front mount. Same thing.
But everything was back to normal after I realigned the shift linkage. The 86 may be different. For the 89 model, You loosen the shift linkage bolt. Lock the shifter in 3rd with a 1/4 inch diameter philip screw driver by inserting it in a hole just in front of the shifter. On the transmission side there is a alignment hole on the input shaft about 1/8 inch in diameter. use a rod that size to align it flush with a spot at the back of the transmission. Bolt up the shift linkage bolt. That should do it.
