I did have one go bad on me. It must have been a Joe Schmoe brand rebuilt, at least I hope it was. When they rebuilt it, they lubed it with a few dabs of poor-quality grease and installed the boot.
When I had it off the car to replace the boot, it was unbelievable how much play there was in the joint, not to mention how dry it was. To show how little grease there was in it from the rebuild shop, there were no spatters of grease in the wheel well on that side. I pulled a driveaxle (same side, of course) off my parts car and swapped them. I lost a lot of vibration when I replaced it.
So, as much as I thought they don't really go bad, I found that they do.
