Hello all, (and thanks for the advice Dan)
Dan mentioned something I had not considered - the condition of the plug wires. I have an ohm meter, so I can measure internal resistance of the wires - I am assuming this is the wy you'd tell if they need replacement.
What resistance values should I look for to indicate good or bad condition of the wires?
