Water to remove engine carbon deposits?

Folks,
Being a former off-roader I know that water sucked into an idleing engine will stall the motor. More than likely it will not bend/break anything. Key word here is IDLE. This works on healthy V8's (Bonco) and I6's (Landcruiser).
I was wondering if I spray/MIST some water (somehow) into the throttle body would this remove some/any/all of my perceived carbon deposits in my '88 8valve. Ala 'water injection'!?
Just thinking out loud here. I know it's probably not worth the potential damage but..............
