I really don't know what to say about the 5 speeds, I have been through several of them & am going with a modded 4 speed. When my car was on a dyno (about 100K ago), it registered 181 BHP & that was with a K&N filtercharger & Group-6 APC, ONLY. After adding lots of other stuff, I am sure it was 200 BHP + & the 5 speeds wouldn't/couldn't take it (I didn't have the upgraded pinion).
So I gave up with that & will use the 4 speeds I bring over from Sweden as well as a shifter. The trans are good for 300+HP RELIABLY & are used in lots of tweeked cars in Sweden on the race track, rally circuit or on the street.
First gear is simply a waste in the 5 speeds anyways, if ya use it the trans will die. The 4 speeds are supose to be MUCH better & have upgraded shift forks as well as numerous other mods. It also drops .5 to 1 sec off the 0-60 or 1/4 mi times, reduces all passing times & reduces top end by 6%, unless a 7K redline is used then 260 KPH is where it stops.
I would also use a short shift kit. This is easier on the trans in the way it shifts, but yes, they aren't cheap & the exchange rate isn't to good either. It is true that is can be enjoyable to shift a C900.
Jeff Proposki supposidley has 300 BHP in his Viggenized SPG & uses a 5 speed trans with my shifter kit.
HP costs & I just don't trust the 5 speeds at all.
If interested, I do have a small list/email from Jorgen about what he does to the 4 speed boxes.
