I saw your previous posts on that situation before I actually started this morning and was hoping my problem wasn't the same. My problem is that in North Bay, ON the nearest dealers are in Toronto or Ottawa, both 3-4 hours away. So I may have to go the used gearbox route and get one of the local shops to do it.
I've had a lot of cars in my day and I just can't believe that a manufacturer like SAAB would pull an engineering trick like this. A cold weather car in a cold weather environment shouldn't have stupid design flaws like a plastic gear where it can not be easily changed. Its nuts! Any other of my cars that I have even bothered to look at the gearbox outdrive used a steel gear in the box with a plastic worm gear that could easily be removed if it stripped or broke. Oh well.
