Any info I could find on removing the knob on a 1992 9KT also indicated it just 'pulled off'. Sooo, I commence to pulling...pulling harder...pulling some more...nothing. Since the existing knob was trashed and I was replacing anyway (as well as removing all the reverse lockout junk), I just got a big pair of dykes and started cutting it off.
The knob IS just pushed on, but mine was glued on pretty strongly, and the Saab knob (wait, that's what my friends call me) is constructed such that it will collapse if met with force, like your knee in a car wreck.
The shaft is splined, lending further credence to the 'it just pulls off theory', but I had to trash mine to get it off.
