Its not an immediate problem but your should plan on (at worst) replacing the clutch master, slave, clutch pressure plate, clutch disc and associated bearings.
The master is easy to rebuild or replace but any work on the slave or clutch requires the removal of the transmission - this entails taking most of the driver's side of the engine compartment apart and while tractible, is definitely not for the timid. I did it myself over the summer but it took a while. I've heard that shops charge as much as $800-1000, mostly for labor, to have the work done.
A good first step might be to pressure bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Its doubtful that the hydraulic fluid has been changed, and there may be air bubbles in the clutch hydraulic hoses that are causing the mushy feel you describe.
