On early 9000's most mirror defrost problems are due to the glass becoming detached(unbonded)in areas from the foam/pad heater,in the worst cases the mirror will fall completely off. The repair is to clean the rear surface of the mirror and the face of the foam/pad heater so that a thin coat of red high temperature silicone automotive rubber (in a tube) can be applied and will bond the two surfaces together without voids(press from the center out towards the sides to remove any air that may become trapped). On later years the thermostat is not used, including replacements for the early ones. To test the thermostat test for open OHMS at room temperature and some ohms when placed in the freezer.
