Looking at section 2.1 Basic Engine B234 New Supplement, sealant between the timing cover and end block:

"A special single-component anaerobic adhesive (45-3020872)" On another page the same product is listed as having part number (45-3028972).

For the sump pan, "Permatex Ultra Blue (45-3020856).

Interestingly enough, while browsing through the manual, it does say to apply silicone sealant at four locations on the valve cover. These are the four plastic plugs in the way of the two camshafts.

Another interesting fact. Robert, I remember you mention the other day about the different characteristics between the normal aspirated engine and a turbo. Looking at the respective torque curve, they match with your description (of course), as follows:

The normal aspirated engine up to MY93 has a relatively flat torque curve, about 193 N-m to 200 N-m from 2000 to 5500 rpm. It peaks at 212 N-m at 3800 rpm.

The turbo engine torque curve is quite different. It climbs up a steep curve from 250 N-m at 1500 rpm to reach a peak at 330 N-m at 2000 rpm. It then drops off slightly to 323 N-m and stays flat from 2000 rpm to 4000 rpm and then drops off sharply at higher rpm. The torque char. for the turbo is for the 5 speed. Auto is different.
