Which 9000? I recently bought ’92 9000s. It needed a starter and some other work, but the body and interior were great and I got it cheap. It seemed worth a gamble. Used cars always have surprises. I figured the money I didn’t spend up front, I could spend on a good mechanic for the tough stuff and play with the rest myself. It seems like a good idea to spend money right off and know where you stand rather that wait for stuff to brake. The “s” has the leather interior and a lot of the goodies, but not a turbo. I thought it might be a slug without the turbo, but it moves pretty well. I’d be happy to go without any more points for a while anyway. So far I’ve put a little over 2000 miles on it. I love it. It handles like a sports car on the back roads. It’s an effortless highway cruiser. It’s great in the snow. It’s stable in strong gusty cross-winds. It will hold an amazing amount of stuff, and it’s comfortable for 4 on a long trip. It’s a joy to drive. So far I’ve found it enjoyable to work on. This is my first Saab, I may never be without one again. I understand you should stick to a ’91 or ’92 engine unless you want to do a lot of extra work. Do a search on timing chains, it might be an issue if you buy a used engine. I can recommend Sobstory. Get an estimate from one of the shops and see how much of song is worthwhile. Does anyone have thoughts on putting a turbo engine in a non-turbo car?
