engine/body common ground cable

Is there a ground cable that keeps then engine and body at the same electrical potential? I kno that two cables come off of the (-) battery terminal, one to the frame and another to the transmission, but are there any other common grounds.
I bought new battery cables at an auto parts store and supplemental cables that I'm suposed to attach to the (+) distribution block and to the body (-), behind the battery on my '87 T seem quite thin at maybe 10 or 8 gauge instead of the 6 gauge cables that now run to those secondary locations.
I may end up running another set of heavier cables from the starter to the (+)distribution block, and from the transmission to the frame "earth" conection - until then I'll hope not to start a fire.
