If the leak was bad, there may be coolant residue in the duct work. Or if coolant was spilled onto the motor or transmission, it could smell for a while.
Or one of the hoses to the core is not tight enough. Open up the panel at the rear of the engine compartment and look at where the heater hoses go to and from the core. check the hose connections to make sure the hose clamps are secure.
