Sway Bar End Link Problem

I am replacing the sway bar end links on my 91 cd turbo. I bought scan-tech end links. Though they came in packages with the same part number, one is 1.2mm narrower in depth (measuring the metal eye the bushing is in) than the other. The thicker one is the same size as the original on my car. The thicker one is about 19.7mm and the thinner one is about 18.5mm.

I first installed the one that is smaller, not realizing that there is a difference. When I tightened the lower nut on the bottom of the end link, the eye twisted dramtically and the bushing popped out of the eye. I had first tightened the 18mm bolt securing the end link to the sway bar as tight as it would go. So, I don't think the eye should have been twisting in the first place, let alone enough to pop out the busing.

Next, I tried the end link that is the same depth as the oem. This one is better, but it is still twising when the lower nut (16mm) is tightened. The original end link does not seem to twist much, if at all. It seems like the rubber one the new one is softer than on the original.

Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
