Yeah, I've had the unplesant experience of trying to stop a car (not the 9k) with the power brakes out before; not fun. But, in my Miata I could lock the rears at will with the handbrake. Then again (a) it's a Miata which weighs 1/2 to 2/3 of a 9k and (b) the rear pads were the same size as the 9k front pads. I miss that car...sniff...sniff :( but no place for the kids.

On my 9000 the fronts lock well before the rears no matter the surface. As a matter of fact, on a snow covered road today I could not get the rear to kick around by turning and grabbing the parking brake. Something tells me that they are still not right. I should throw the new pads on and at least buff the rotors with emery cloth or something and put the old pads on the shelf as a spare set; I guess I'll see how my weekend shapes up.

Regarding asbestos: Yes you can get asbestos pads. I didn't think so either until someone mentioned that the Repco/Axxis Deluxe pads are asbestos. That's whats sitting on the shelf and though it doesn't say the a word on them anywhere the big yellow warning about not breathing the dust is a dead giveaway.
