Hello John,
What you are describing is called "torque steer" and is typical of high powered FWD cars. The problem is actually much worse in the 900/9-3 series, so you shoul consider yourself lucky.
HOWEVER: There are a a multitude of items on the front end that, if worn, would increase the effect of torque steer on the steering and/or hadling (besides the tires, which could centaily make a big difference).
A short list:
Wheel bearings, tie rods/tie rod ends, suspension/sway bar bushings, steering rack bushings, motor mounts, struts.
Any of these things, when worn, alone or in combination, can reduce the "tightness" of the front end. If one knows know what to look for, then it should take about 10 minutes to do a fairly thourough check of all of these items.
Good Luck.
-Kyle
