By visual inspection you should see where the oil seal will go. The flat side of the oil seal should be facing the pully or the lip is facing the engine. When re-fitting the seal, you will note that the diameter must be exactly the same with the seal housing. You can hammer it a little bit but place something in between so you don't damage the flat side of the seal. It also helps putting a gasket maker or silicone on the outer edge of the seal. The lip of the seal has a spring wound around it that keeps it tight on the shaft. Make sure the lip of the seal is tight on the edge of the shaft, else the leak will start from there. I have a way of tightening the lip by removing the spring and reducing its diameter by re-inserting the ends a bit more. Then replace it in the oil seal lip and it should hold the shaft tight. This is good specially if you can't find a replacement seal and the old seal lip is still okay. Good luck..
