Hi T, the evaporating filament coating the globe means one of two things. The lamp you are using is designed for a lower voltage range. or the lamp is acting as a fuse path to something else drawing current thru it because you may have lost a ground in the tail clusters. The 5 Watt lamp would be the first to vaporize as it would have the smallest diameter filament wire. Do lamps still come on (tail and brake) when these 5's are burnt open? Or does the tail units do weird things? I have seen many cars rolling along that have tail lamps go out when the brakes are applied lighting up the brake filaments because there is not a good ground back there.
