Check your wheel balance first. I've had several experiences with out of balance wheels mimicking more serious symptoms. On the other hand, if you're hearing and feeling the gnashing of mechanical metal, ignore this message:
If there's an oil leak at the differential, it is oil from the differential, not the intermediate shaft. The shaft simply splines into the transmission on that end. Unless of course it's oil from one of the multitudes of common leaking points just about anywhere else on the engine, which then oozes down the engine/transmission and eventually drips off the bottom of the differential.
On the intermediate shaft, by "loose" do you mean "flopping around" or do you mean "moving side to side?" If it's moving side to side, it could be the support bearing ... BUT ... maybe a little play's permissible and tire balance is the problem.
I'd seriously consider putting off a major time investment until you've sorted out some fundamentals on a 190K car, such as whether the balance is out of whack.
Unless you're hearing metallic gnashing. Then invest away...
