My wife went to visit an automotive parts testing company yesterday on business - they do a lot of work for GM and their suppliers. The owner was showing her a super high speed camera they use for air bag work - to watch how they deploy etc. He mentioned that he was getting an even faster one to do work for this "great new innovation" in car safety, namely explosive seatbelt tensioners. I don't think he believed my wife when she told him that her 88 Saab 9000 had this feature - I am right aren't I? Did Saab discontinue these when they started putting airbags in? Would seatbelt tensioners not be more effective than airbags anyway in an accident(provided you were wearing the seatbelt of course)?

Just curious if anybody had any insight on this issues.
