The very last thing in the Electrical Book is the P-interlock SHIFT LOCK, US, CA
Guess that means it was an add on. Here goes. Ign key must be in the drive spot, brake pedal depressed before lever can be moved out of Park.
Conversely it must be in Park b4 ign key can be withdrawn from lock.
Suggested Fault tracing
Check fuse 3
Check that the start interlock relay 437 is live and operates.
Check that the solenoid gets current when brake is kept depressed.
What happens:
Turning engine on; Key on to start; start interlock relay trips; brake is kept depressed solenoid 439 is grounded and stops blocking Park position.
This is from the schematic, A microswitch feels the lever in P.
What do you hear? Kill all noise production and listen: Apply brake;
Can you hear the solenoid by the tranny selector?
Ditto for the solenoid at the key switch?
Is the power at the buss rail in glove box relay box on left side wing where a green wire goes to fuse 2 & 3. Fuse 27 lets solenoid work at the key when killing and parking.
The 437 relay is a major player it should come on with other normal things in the drive position of key. Is it OK? Located
Can you do electric? got a test light?
Sorry for all this but let me know if it leads to any success.
