With the radio off, unscrew the nut above the SAAB bezel at the base of the antenna. Have someone turn on the radio and pull up on the antenna as it extends. The whole mast should come right out, along with the nylon gear rack. With a rag and plenty of WD-40, work the antenna, spraying inside and out to get as much of the black crud out of there as possible. After the antenna moves freely, keep cleaning it a little more. Clean as much of the black gunk off the nylon teeth as possible. Then put some lithium grease on the gear teeth and slide the gear rack into the tube. You may want to straighten the nylon piece somewhat so it doesn't catch at the base of the tube. The teeth should face toward the front of the car. You should feel a spongy engagement if the nylon has made it all the way down to the drive gear. Then, have your helper turn on the radio while you feed the mast into the tube. Replace the bezel and nut and actuaute the antenna a few times to make sure everything's good. You can do this without a helper if you move quickly or have very long arms. Also, when you pull out the antenna, you'll find a sleeve with contact tabs. It's a good idea to clean the sleeve and bend out the tabs slightly and to clean the inside of the tube as much as possible.
Good luck
