The '98 CSE auto and the Aero auto had the same engine. However, so did all the other 2.3T (full-pressure) autos - the 200HP engine with 294Nm torque. 200HP manual engines produced 323Nm torque.
The '98 CSE manual and the Aero manual shared the 225HP engine with 342Nm torque.
So yes, it is true. However, it's not necessarily as good as it sounds.
As for the suspension, I've heard that the '98 CSE suspension may be the same as the Aero, but don't know for certain. What are the spring colour codes front and rear? Each spring should have five bands on it: x-y-z-y-x, where x, y and z are different colours. You might have to look carefully, as not all five bands might be visible at first glance.
