Stock tire size on the '87 (unless it's different in Europe, but I doubt THIS much different) is 205/55/15, which has an overall diameter of 23.88", whereas a 225/50/16 is 24.86". I'd be surprised if you could get by using these without rubbing, as a good friend has reported that even 225/50/15 (right diameter, just wider) rubs in the front.
Even if you don't rub, the speedometer will still be off, though it may actually work in your favor, as the one in my '87 is high by quite a bit, and a larger diameter tire will produce a lower reading vs. your actual speed. Acceleration will be slower though...
