Craig,
I have a '92 9K and I just worked on the locks because the rear right door lock was not locking when mahually locked. It was firm. I am the second owner and I think the lock was worked on previously. I had to rotate the lever near the locking mechanism to fix it. What happens is that when this lever is reattached, there is a possibility that it could rotate to a pushed position. This would make the manual lock firm because it is already in the pushed position. I had to remove the door panel 3 times to figure this out. You won't notice it because the door still locks thru the central locking but not manually. Note that the lock linkage is higher compared to the wrong set up. Also, make sure that the black plastic clippings (fastned to the small holes)as mentioned by zeke are still ok or not broken and the linkages are straightened . There are 2 of these clippings, one at the locking mechanism side and one at the manual lock side. I was able to buy these clippings and replace them. This could also be the problem on Scott S door locks. Good luck...
