I have a '96 9000CS with 72K which I just started doing my own service on. I typically used to have the SAAB dealer do the maintenance, since they were reasonably priced. Well since they switched owners, the price went way up. Needless to say I went to the store and bought what I thought was the best oil filter (Fram Double Guard® Filter with Teflon) and 5 qts Castrol Synthetic Blend), removed the SAAB filter and drained the SAAB oil and used this new "better" part/fluid. I also went against the suggestions on this board and tried the Bosch Platinum FR7DPX plug (standard stock at my autoparts store) in lieu of the NGK OEM plugs (special order). I took it out on a test drive. Everything sounded ok, no pinging or erratic sputtering for the first 3 minutes, then needless to say, the CHECK ENGINE light started flashing at me. I took it back home and put the old plugs back in (I have since ordered the NGKs), the check engine light no longer comes on, however when coming to a stop the car idles very low (400-500rpm) and sputters, but then jumps back up to normal (800-900rpm) and accelerates just fine. I am afraid this low idle will eventually cause a stall and is a symptom of a bigger problem.

After reading this board, I have seen people claim that both switching the oil type and/or spark plugs can cause this problem. Even after putting the old plugs back in (which were working fine before), and I start experiencing this problem, could it still be the plugs, or would the new blended oil along with the Teflon filter cause viscosity problems in the oil system, or a combination of both or neither?

HELP?
