AT shakes more, shorter legs

The Aero with automatic is fast enough, perhaps a little slower than the 5-speed but you have to work to make the 5-speed go quickly.
Two other major differences: the 2.3L four gets shaky at low idle speeds, and the ZF automatic pulls it down into the shaky range, so it shakes when sitting at stoplights at idle. The ZF 4HP18 automatic is not a particularly refined creature, it's a little jerky in downshifts too. The Aisin-Warner box in the 9-5 is much better.
Also, the 5-speed turns a little slower in 5th at cruise, this and less power loss through the drivetrain with the manual transmission means you'll get better gas mileage.
As for durability of the automatic - maybe some folks have had trouble, our '92 pre-Aero 9000T automatic is at 140K (fingers crossed.)
