I installed one in my '97 CSET, then removed it after it got totalled, and then installed it into my '98 CSET, so I've had my share in this process.

It's very easy. The holes are pre-drilled for you under the carpeting. The only thing is you have to follow the directions on the sheet that is supplied with the Saab armrest as for cutting into the carpet. They give exact measurements, and they should be followed; otherwise, you're left with a mess in your carpet from too long/short of a cut. They supply you with everything you need. Only problem is it's very expensive from Saab, about $300. It is not attached to the console lid; rather, it uses its own brackets/braces that fit around the whole center console unit.

Once installed, the armrest lifts straight up for access to the center console. But, the console lid now does not lift totally straight up since the armrest is in the way.

BTW, move your in-dash cupholder to the top DIN slot so you can put your shifter in PARK. I just installed mine this weekend, and put the cupholder in the top slot, my in-dash CD unit in the middle slot, and the stereo head-unit in the bottom slot. I removed the ash tray (don't smoke), and am planning on drilling a hole in the back of my storage bin so I could re-install the cigarette lighter into it and use it for any plug-ins (radar detector). Got this idea from someone on this BB on this topic.
