Hi Jim,
I know "zeke" is very happy with his Firestone SZ50's, which are also "a bargain" at e.g Tirerack as far as I've heard. They're also one of the few tires to come in 215/50, which seems to be a good size for the stock 6,5x16" Super Aeros.
Apart from that I would say go for a set of Bridgestone Potenza S-02 Pole Position if they still have them in stock at Tirerack.
I drive Continental SportContact 205/55-16 on my 97 9000 Aero (36K miles by the way...) and I'm quite happy with them.
Other tires I know people are happy with on the 9K Aero are: Michelin Pilot Sport (very expensive) and Goodyear Eagle F1.
I'd say go for the Firestone's as there's first hand info on their performance and they seem to be a bargain.
Glad to hear about a nice stock low-mileage 97 9000 Aero! Aren't that many around... Unfortunately I haven't had the willpower to keep mine stock...
/ Karl
