Hi-
I understand your concern, but if you do your research and get a car that checks out with a good mechanic you will probably be fine. The trick in your case is to find a super mechanic that knows Saabs well and that you can trust. Find other Saab owners in your area and ask. If you can wait a little bit, stay away from the V6. The engine is just not as bulletproof. Others may argue, but I would look for a Low Pressure Turbo model. That way you will have reasonable power and be giving the engine a bit of a break. I come from a marine background and the Naturally Aspirated engines (non-turbo) always last longer by several thousands of hours.
Remember, you have to like what you drive. Find a good mechanic and have him do every bit of preventative maintenance possible. Follow Quasi's site for this. And to double check your mechanic just post here. Good Luck!
Mike
